SHOREHAM FORT OPEN DAY 2011

The Shoreham Redoubt Fort held its second annual gunfire day in June this year . The 23rd. Sussex Home Guard demonstrated small arms and anti -tank rifles. In use were the Boys Anti-Tank rifles, Stens, P14 & P17 rifles & shot guns.

The purpose of this event is to raise funds for the ongoing restoration of the Fort. It was a small coastal defence fort built in the mid 19th. Century in anticipation of possible invasion by the French, originally mounting a battery of coastal defence guns.

The redoubt also has a connection with early movie making. The now demolished barrack buildings were one of the earliest film studio's just prior to WW1. The Home Guard manned WW2 searchlight building still functions, now being used by the Coast Guards.

The next date for this event is Sunday June 10th. 2012. You can visit the fort's website by clicking here Thanks to Martin Mace and Dave Cassan from Britain at War Magazine for photos from this event.
