CHARTWELL HOUSE, WORLD WAR 2 WEEKEND

For the first time, the historic home of World War 2 Premier Sir Winston Churchill was used to stage a World War 2 Weekend by the National Trust. The 23rd Sussex Home Guard were chosed for this singular honour.

A tented platoon encampment was erected and vehicles were stationed at the entrance to the house. During the weekend, the platoon staged drill displays, parades, patrols etc.

There was tremendous interest from the visiting public who asked many questions of the Home Guardsmen regarding weaponary and equipment.
